from first idea to final cut
Over the past 25 years, Richard Caesar has established himself as a filmmaker working across international feature films, television drama, and high-end commercials. A graduate of the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München (HFF), he has also led his own post-production for several years and continues to explore new creative workflows, including AI-assisted filmmaking.
Whether writing, directing, or working in VFX, Richard’s approach is shaped by a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process, allowing him to move fluidly between storytelling, technology, and production realities.
director
Richard’s graduation film Concierto Evolución was seen by over 500,000 visitors at the World Expo in Seville, Spain, won multiple international awards, and screened in more than 400 cinemas across the United States.
After film school, he directed episodes of the successful TV series Against the Wind, produced by Bavaria Film for WDR and shot on Maui/Hawaii. His first commercials led to an international career, shooting for brands such as L’Oréal, Nivea, and Procter & Gamble, across the UK, India, Argentina, New Zealand, South Africa, and beyond.
Richard wrote and directed the award-winning 40-minute science-fiction film Fantasy for a New Age, shot in English in Prague, Iceland, and New York. The unique project was cast in LA and offered the opportunity to collaborate with cinematographer and Academy Award winner Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter, Heaven’s Gate).
Richard’s 90-minute directing debut The Calling was produced by Bernd Eichinger (The Downfall, The Name of the Rose), featuring an international cast including Laura Harris (The Faculty, 24), Alice Krige (Star Treck: Voyager, The OA) and Richard Lintern (The Crown). The film was shot in the UK and successfully released in all major countries.
writer
Richard has been writing screenplays in German and English since his early film school shorts. In 2019, he teamed up with established writer Sabine Radebold. Their recent work includes three episodes of the ZDF primetime series Mordsschwestern, the screenplay for the ZDF comedy Sechs Richtige, as well as the pilot script and novel adaptation of the miniseries Anna’s Demons (in development, WiP / Medienagentur Breitling).
vfx / ai
For over five years, Richard co-ran the Munich post-production studio Lizard Lounge with New York-based Michael Huber (Severance, Past Lives).
With his strong background in editing and compositing, Richard quickly began exploring AI as a creative tool for filmmaking, developing commercial work such as the virtual influencer Lucy for XXX-Lutz, the video clip The Whale for Jakob from Earth or high resolution tests for upcoming film integration (SAM Film).
